Pietralunga Day Nine
We started off the day super early today, we headed straight to Pietralunga to visit Giuliano Tartufi and do some truffle hunting. This was one of my favorite outdoor activities. I didn't think I would like this one as much as I did but I enjoyed learning about how they use dogs to hunt the truffles. I learned that they only use female dogs to hunt the truffles because they are smarter, faster, and more aggressive when it comes to hunting. I also learned that they begin to train them when they are puppies and they will put truffles near them when they sleep so they get used to the smell. When the dogs do something correct during training they will receive a treat, and that is how they train the dogs to be so good at truffle hunting. It was fun to see the dogs in action, I couldn't believe they would find the truffles so fast. After the truffle hunting, we had a snack at the farm, we had bruschettas with different truffle toppings and some really good truffle pizza. I wish it was more food but it was still good. After the truffle hunting and snack, we headed to Gubbio. Gubbio is a cute little small town, I enjoyed being able to explore. Like usual I did some shopping before we went to another basilica. We took a cable car to get to the basilica which I was terrified about but I honestly enjoyed. I thought the scenery was so beautiful and being able to see the town and trees from a different perspective was amazing. We visited the Basilica di Sant'Ubaldo which has the body of one of the most important Saints of Gubbio, Saint Ubaldo. I learned it was originally built in the 1500s. The church is the ending point of the Saint Ubaldo Day parade where participants carry stands and statues of the saints all through the city.

Hi Isa! Like you, I found the experience of truffle hunting super fun. Like you said, it was so cool to get to see the dogs in action and how good they were at finding truffles. I also really enjoyed the cable car ride up the mountain. Luckily, I'm not afraid of heights, so I found the experience super fun. Plus, the view was amazing!
